Default Buying all 3XP's unless..... also whats good...

Hey ive played guild wars the og for about 3 months when it first came out, havent touched it since (thanks to that WoW lifeleach) now that the final XP has arrived (before GW2) im thinking about going out and picking up factions, nightfall, and Eye of the north. BUT I also would like to know what limitations will I have as to what characters can I choose? of course im starting from the beginning of the Prophecies campaign. and if I cant start as a Assassin, Ritualist, Dervish, or a Paragon what and how do I pick it as a secondary class?

Also whats the best PvE character combo availiable, I know thats alot of good combos but whats would you say was really good at solo play? warrior/monk? warrior/ranger? whats good?

Thank you for your time and effort.

Rit and Sin are only if you start in Factions.

Derv and Paragon are only if you start in Nightfall.

All three are linked at some point.

You can get a factions or NF profession secondary on your proph characters if you pay 500 at a profession changer at the Temple of Balthazar, or take your prophecies character to either nightfall or factions and complete some of the storyline there to reach the profession changer in either.

There is no "best" profession combo...that's why there's alot of character slots available.

A11Eur0 answered the first part of your question flawlessly, as to which is best character wise, you can't go wrong with /monk for a hard rez.

GW isn't quite like WoW where you spec into things. In GW you can reroll your char anytime you are in town for free, so long as you've either done the profession quest (Prophecies - Desert town quests), or unlocked them from a profession changer NPC for 500 gold each. Once the profession is unlocked, you can switch back and forth as many times as you want from your skill window.

...It didn't used to be like that. Once upon a time, you had to walk your ass to the profession changer and change it every time you wanted a new secondary!

Anyway, the point of that is so that there is no superior combo, because everyone can change their lineups at will (in towns/outposts) to suit different circumstances.

Eye of the North is the only true expansion. The other 2 are chapters. When you do buy either or both of the others, make sure you link them to your existing account. That way you can play who ever you want across all 3 games.

There's a sticky at the top of this forum called For the new player on a budget. For even more information, go here the wiki knows all.

As for what character is good, that is up to you. All you will get here are what everyone else thinks. Try them out and see what's expected/needed as you go along.

In the future, please check the stickies at the top of this forum before you ask a question that hundreds of others have asked before you.
